We are committed to helping our friends on Pine Ridge during these unprecedented times! The Billion Acts and PeaceJam community would like to raise $600 to provide 20 meals to the Pine Ridge community during this time. Thirty dollars provides one weekly box for the average family on Pine Ridge.Families on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, where ongoing social inequities and extreme poverty already exist, are being disproportionately impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic's global, economic shock waves. We receive calls daily from tribal members asking for help with food and the necessary supplies to maintain a safe and sanitary environment. If you are looking for a way to help, please consider making a donation to our emergency action fund. Our Youth Ambassadors - and their mentors - have identified those families in their communities who are at the greatest risk of being significantly impacted by the Covid-19 crisis. There are currently 32 families in nine communities receiving our assistance and we would love to increase that number to 100 families for a sustained effort through the end of August as the ripple effects of this global, economic crisis play out on Pine Ridge. More about The Covid Action Initiative On Tuesday, May 5th, the Covid Action Initiative will be participating in the Global Day of Giving and Unity as a part of #GivingTuesdayNow!And if this message finds you among one of the many who are impacted financially, our prayers are with you and - if you find it appropriate- would you help instead by simply sharing this email and spreading the word to your network?

Dec. 05, 2019Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement, Activist Julia Cordover, Search For Common Ground, Amani Project and COMMON Announce Yearbook Memorializing Victims Killed in 2018 School Shootings First Public Viewing of The 2018 Yearbook December 11 - December 29, 2019 Opening Event, December 11, 6-8pm Remarks by Scarlett Lewis, Julia Cordover and Alex Bogusky 126 Front Street, Brooklyn, NY (DUMBO) Gun violence in schools is a national epidemic, as the shocking number of incidents in 2018 plainly shows. During 2018, 114 children and adults were shot, killed or injured at American schools. The acceptable amount is zero, yet these numbers are growing. To make this issue tangible, Scarlett Lewis, a Sandy Hook mother and founder of the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement; Julia Cordover, student body president at the time of the Parkland shooting; Search For Common Ground; Amani Project; and COMMON have produced a physical yearbook that memorializes the 37 victims who were killed in school shootings during 2018. Those remembered in The 2018 Yearbook include victims of gun violence in K-12 schools and universities during school hours or school-sponsored events. Each victim is remembered with an empty “yearbook photo” alongside their name. “As a society, we’ve been making this yearbook for decades; we just didn’t realize it,” said Alex Bogusky, founder of COMMON. “Using the normally innocent and hopeful form of a yearbook to capture this tragedy is an attempt to jar us out of complacency.” The concept for the Yearbook originated with creative director Andrew Goldin, Cordover’s cousin, and came to life with the help of Bogusky, their goal being to bring much-needed attention to an ongoing tragedy. “The time has come for each of us to be part of the solution,” said Lewis. “It is one thing to empathize with the victims and feel their pain, but quite another to actively do something to keep our kids safe. The Yearbook is a physical reminder that we are accountable for our children’s safety and a call to uphold that responsibility.” “The memory of these 37 who died can move us to set aside our differences and work together to keep all children safe,” said Shamil Idriss, CEO of Search For Common Ground. “I cannot imagine a higher calling than to protect the lives of children nor a more basic responsibility.” Copies of the Yearbook will be mailed in December to all 100 Senators, Governors, 2020 presidential candidates, and President Trump. The Yearbook will not be made available to the public, but viewing exhibitions will be curated starting in New York. Visitors will have an opportunity to view the Yearbook and learn about organizations that can help turn their pain into action. Exhibition remains open through December 29, 2019. For more information about The 2018 Yearbook and Exhibition visit www.the2018yearbook.com

Rockville , US | Apr. 12, 2022From PeaceJam Uganda organizer Haruna Salim Mbusa:"On 27th April 2022, we successfully conducted the first ever, PeaceJam Uganda Slam supported by theGreat Lakes Peace Center, Uganda (GLPC) which is the official chapter of PeaceJam in Uganda. This one-day conference (which was conducted at Makerere University Uganda) brought together young people from different institutions to discuss how best they can continue to influence positive change in world. This was done through small (family) group discussions, workshops, presentations, talent shows and experience sharing. The event was very successful and I believe, it did leave the attendees the same. The slam was preceded by a PeaceJam Mentors' Training on the previous day (26th April) where university students were acquainted with the knowledge and skills of facilitating small group discussions ahead of the conference. These (mentors) later supported the family group sessions on the next day. We were very glad to have our friend, Wisdom Addo the coordinator of PeaceJam Ghana supporting the entire process of organising this, but most importantly joining us (virtually) for the mentors' training. The cornerstone of PeaceJam's work is "Young People" which is why our engagements are done majorly by and with youths. We believe that, young people have the potential to get things done and can therefore, in that sense, be inspired and guided on how best they make their contribution towards changing the world."

Global, US | Mar. 24, 2022September 21st, Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee & PeaceJam Liberia launched the Don't Touch My Peace Campaign worldwide! The campaign began when the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa (GPFA) and PeaceJam Liberia realized their concerns that political violence could erupt during the 2020 midterm elections. They were especially concerned for Liberian youth, who had been frequently brought or forced into political violence during the Liberian civil wars. It was agreed that the role of Liberian youth in sustaining the country's hard-fought peace had to be uplifted. The risks were high, as the youth form a majority within partisan groups where electoral violence is prone. "We believe to curb electoral violence, we must expand opportunities for young people's political and civic engagements to understand their role as peacekeepers and human rights advocates, especially during political tensions." The campaign has brought together over 600 PeaceJammers in three of Liberia's counties—Bong, Margibi, Montserrado— "to address the gap in curbing political and electoral violence by placing young Liberians as frontliners in active peacebuilding activities through PeaceJam Liberia (PJLIB) Project.” #DontTouchMyPeace has now spread beyond the borders of Liberia. The West African Center for Peace Foundation was even inspired to host a dialogue with youth of different political ideologies that sought their commitment to nonviolence during the December elections. Groups in South Africa, Greece, Guatemala, and the United States have also joined the call-to-action. The Liberia midterm elections passed peacefully, and now their message continues to be promoted worldwide! The Don't Touch My Peace Campaign started by PeaceJam Liberia and Leymah Gbowee began as a way for youth to tell the world exactly what is standing in the way of peace in their communities.Fun Ways YOU Can Join the #DontTouchMyPeace Campaign!Add a "Don't Touch My Peace" graphic or change your profile photo on facebook & Instagram.Post a video or photo about what you think is standing in the way of peace near you- Add #DontTouchMyPeace & #PeaceJamCreate a T-shirt design for “Don’t Touch My Peace” (submit designs to Info@peacejam.org)Your art may be chosen as the design that will be featured on a t-shirt for the PeaceJam store!

Kalamazoo, US | Mar. 31, 2020Support us as together we alleviate extreme poverty, grow health and wellness, educate and build community and advance human dignity for indigenous peoples in the Alta and Baja Verapaz region of Guatemala! The Maya people native to this area were hard hit by COVID 19 which overwhelmed health care, shut down all transportation in the country, and brought about starvation and malnutrition to this developing nation. We work with a local NGO that lives with and befriends the rural, remote villagers while training them on life altering improvements that they can carry out in their own lives. Commitments are made and followed through on for both sides so in a spirit of love and respect we can give the Maya more control over the course of their lives. Opportunities improve. Hope is cultivated! Join us!

Join us!
Avon Lake, US | Jul. 30, 2020We are committed to helping our friends on Pine Ridge during these unprecedented times! The Billion Acts and PeaceJam community would like to raise $600 to provide 20 meals to the Pine Ridge community during this time.
