This project, titled "Youth for Change," is a social change initiative aimed at empowering young people and secondary school students in South Sudan to promote peace, reconciliation, and social cohesion in their communities. Inspired by the Rotary International motto "Service above Self" and the eight pillars of positive peace from the Institute for Economics and Peace, the project involves conducting peace education workshops for 50 youth leaders and secondary school students at Abun Academy in Juba, South Sudan, and Don Bosco Secondary School in Maridi, South Sudan.
These workshops cover topics such as the causes and effects of conflict, the principles and practices of peacebuilding, and skills and strategies in leadership, communication, and peace journalism. Additionally, a Peace Ambassador Award is included in the workshop to recognize participants for their achievements and commitment to fostering peace within their communities.
The project's impact is evaluated using a mixed-methods approach, which includes interviews, focus group discussions, and observation to assess participants' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to peace and conflict. The workshop aims to increase participants' awareness and understanding of peace and conflict issues, enhance their confidence and motivation to engage in peace-building activities and improve their relationships and cooperation with peers and other community members.
