Through the Rotaract Club of Kabarole which I am a member of, I have organised a Peace Symposium. This initiative dedicated to promoting (positive) peace and empowering secondary school students through Interact Clubs in Kabarole of Uganda to contribute to peace-building efforts in their communities and schools. Aligned with Rotary International's focus on Peace Building and Conflict Prevention during the month of February, this symposium aims to foster a culture of peace, understanding, and collaboration among the youth in and out of school.
This event targets Rotarians and Rotaractors, youths in and outside school, Interact Club members, and the general public. It will be conducted online and and will have PeaceJam Europe as a partner.
The symposium among other things is meant to:
To raise awareness about the concept of positive peace, the 8 pillars of positive peace and how this concept can be incorporated into Rotary / Rotaract projects and activities.
To engage secondary school students in the process of reflecting on the meaning of peace and encourage them to take an active role in fostering peace in their communities and schools.
To provide a platform for Rotaract, Rotary and Interact Clubs and community members to connect, share ideas, and collaborate on peace-building initiatives.
To align the symposium with Rotary International's February focus on Peace Building and Conflict Prevention during the month of February.
The symposium will include an online Public Presentation: this will have two speakers (Luke and Martina) speaking about "The Intersectionality of Peace anfd the Role of Rotaractors in Fostering a Culture of Peace".
I will also be speaking about "How to Incorporate the Pillars of Positive Peace into Rotaract Projects". We will also have an Interactive Q&A session.
Another important aspect of the symposium is, engaging students and members of Interact Clubs in a campaign, inviting them to write essays / short write-ups on "What Peace Means to Me" and "Actions Students Can Take to Promote Peace." These will be established on posters that can be circulated on social media.
