PeaceJam UK are mindful that we always need to consult young people to ensure that we respond to the needs of children and young people in an appropriate, accessible and inclusive way.
With this in mind, PeaceJam UK established its first ever Youth Leadership Group for students aged between sixteen and twenty-five. The group is made up of seven young people from schools, youth groups and universities across the UK.
This is a good opportunity for young people to develop their leadership and personal development skills. PeaceJam UK will provide the students with training to help them fulfil their leadership duties which include:
Contributing ideas to strengthen the youth conferences and engage more young people in PeaceJam’s One Billion Acts of Peace campaign;
Obtaining feedback from other young people to find out how PeaceJam can further fulfil their personal development needs
Creating a Youth Leadership Group selection process to determine how members will be selected in the future;
Meeting with the Board of Trustees;
Fundraising to create a new scholarship fund for students to attend the PeaceJam pan-European conference in Brussels, 14-15 November 2020.
The first meeting for the Youth Leadership Group was held Friday 29 November. Students based north met at the University of Bradford, and students based south met at the University of Winchester. The entire group were brought together via a conference call chaired by PeaceJam UK’s youngest trustee. The group have started to shape their roles and responsibilities. Activities will be planned and executed to advance the role of young people in PeaceJam UK.
