Students from the Taipei Municipal University Experimental Elementary School launched the "Turtle Rescue" project, focusing on the impact of plastic pollution on sea turtles, especially after an oil spill incident near Xiao Liuqiu. They learned how plastic waste threatens sea turtles and sought to raise awareness through reducing and cleaning up plastics to protect marine life. As part of their efforts, they created stop-motion animations showing injured sea turtles and designed a board game to teach their peers about sea turtles and the importance of reducing plastic use.
The project included an awareness campaign called "Reduce Plastic, Save Turtles," where students delivered in-class presentations and organized school-wide activities to promote the 3Rs of environmental protection. They collected around 600 plastic bottles and encouraged over 100 people to sign pledges, committing to reducing plastic usage and protecting sea turtles. Additionally, they created a board game that introduced the survival challenges faced by the seven species of sea turtles, helping students understand the importance of protecting the ocean.
Through this initiative, students not only developed skills in stop-motion animation and board game design but also deepened their knowledge of sea turtle conservation. They became more aware of how plastic waste threatens both marine life and human health, and they hope their efforts will inspire more people to take action and create a safer environment for ocean creatures.
