At Yihsing Elementary School in Pingzhen District, Taoyuan City, students faced challenges with the daily task of disposing of garbage. They found the existing waste disposal methods inconvenient and prone to causing environmental litter. To enhance the convenience and enjoyment of trash disposal, the school community decided to design an innovative "Trash Slide," aligning with the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to create a safe and user-friendly environment.
The dedicated slide was constructed using discarded wooden chairs and recycled corrugated cardboard, with careful consideration of how garbage bags would slide down and safety during use. Throughout the design process, the team measured, calculated, and conducted repeated tests, ultimately building a slide that met their needs. This facility not only resolved the issue of having to walk far to dispose of trash but also made the disposal process more engaging, increasing environmental awareness among students and staff.
After completing the project, the team shared the innovative facility's usage guidelines with the entire school, gaining support from both the school administration and parents. Through this activity, the students not only practiced environmental protection principles but also developed teamwork and problem-solving skills, adding a sustainable facility to the school. They hope to continue promoting and utilizing this initiative in the future.
