About this Act
Underage refugee single mothers are among the most vulnerable in the world. As Psychology students from the Panteion University in Athens, we joined the PeaceJam Greece Community group that was doing girl empowerment workshops at the Pughad Shelter. We wanted to support the single mothers there that were very close to our age but only younger. We visited twice a month for about six months before the covid lockdowns happened. We spent time playing with the babies and giving the mothers a break. We did a baby clothes drive and collected items that they needed for the babies and for them. We bought craft items that the mothers could do during their rest time like making beaded jewelry and drawing and painting. Although they were mothers, they were still girls just like us and loved being creative. Some of us offered to volunteer our time to give them lessons in Greek, but after the lockdown we werent allowed to go. There are too many things in the world that are not right but there is something that each of us can do about it . Stella, Katerina, Penny, Marina, Myrto, Panteion University, Psychology, year 1
