The initiative “Protecting Stray Animals: Sharing Food and Love” at Taipei Municipal Yong'an Elementary School. The program aimed to cultivate compassion for stray animals through various engaging activities.
Activities included:
Awareness Campaigns: The students organized skits, classroom presentations, and community outreach to educate peers, teachers, and parents about the plight of stray animals.
Fundraising Efforts: Through various fundraising events such as a second-hand sale, creative rice dish sales, and a static exhibition, students raised money to support animal shelters.
Community Engagement: Students visited animal shelters to connect with stray animals and understand their needs, fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy.
The program successfully impacted 1,264 students, 131 teachers, and approximately 160 parents and community members. Notably, 98% of survey respondents reported a deeper understanding of how to treat pets, and 91% expressed a willingness to support future initiatives. Media coverage helped amplify the message, leading to additional support from the community, including fundraising efforts initiated by local businesses.
The project illustrated the power of youth in advocating for animal welfare, demonstrating that love and action can significantly impact the lives of stray animals. As a result, the students not only learned about social responsibility but also cultivated a lasting commitment to caring for all living beings.
