The theme of our annual Marimba Jam Festival held on the 28th September, was HARMONY IN DIVERSITY.
The Festival brought together 300 school learners from Cape Town to perform the marimba on stage in mass collaborations exploring the positive peace-building effects of 'collective music-making'.
The inspiration behind our theme was to pay homage to our country, South Africa, celebrating 30 years of democracy - our country's motto is 'Unity in Diversity'. And we were also inspired by the 'Harmony for Peace' campaign from PeaceJam. We landed on the theme 'Harmony in Diversity.
At the event we also had a large wire sculpture that spelt out the letters HARMONY. Each participant was able to write on a colourful cardboard paper what 'harmony means to me' and add their contribution to the sculpture.
