GENECIS Bioindustries Inc. was founded by Luna Yu, a young scientist and engineer, who is passionate about reducing food waste.

Yu gathered a team of scientists and engineers with experience in microbial engineering, biotechnology, and related technological advancements to join her vision of a circular economy to life. Through these scientific disciplines, Genecis is able to convert food waste into high-quality plastics that are fully biodegradable.

"We’re on a mission to drive our world towards a circular economy, where major brands utilize eco-friendly PHA plastics in packaging, food services, agriculture, textiles and many other areas to reduce the 18 billion pounds of plastic polluting our oceans every year."

The services of GENECIS not only reduce the amount of food-waste in landfills, but also lower the rate of plastic pollution. The PHBV plastics that reach the ocean survive only briefly, and are compostable within a month. Collaborations have already been developed with well-known brands and organizations such as Sodexo, MaRS, and the Green Chemistry and Commerce Council. They have also been recognized with a number of awards for their revolutionary technologies and environmental efforts.
