Welcome to day #2 of the 2024 Billion Acts Earth Day Countdown! You can visit the main campaign page here!
The movement to protect and restore forests is driven by individuals and organizations around the world.
Take Action!
Adopt-a-Tree to support the youth-led reforestation project by Yellow Barn Farm or donate just $1 to the Canopy Project to cover the cost of one tree planting within one of their global reforestation projects. If you have recently planted a tree, upload your picture as an act.
Inspiration:
2017 Billion Acts Awardee Plant-for-the-Planet is one such initiative that aims to raise awareness for climate change and mobilizes the replanting of trees and forests worldwide. Plant-for-the-Planet was founded by then 9 year old Felix Finkbeiner after he was inspired by Nobel Peace Laureate Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan environmentalist who founded the Green Belt Movement.
Education:
Forests and trees hold special significance as cultural symbols and sources of “Survivor Trees”, designated as such for remaining intact despite horrific, circumstances, have become symbols for peace and hope worldwide. Perhaps the most famous example is Hosenbo, a likely 100+ year-old tree that survived the atomic bombing of Nagasaki.
Focus Areas:
You can never leave footprints that last if you are always walking on tiptoe.
