About this Act
Akeena's 100 Girls Project is entitled "Project Babae.lan". The concept came from Pre Colonial religious women leaders called Babaylan, it was stylized as Babae.lan since Babae means “girl” in Filipino. Project Babae.lan aimed to develop the leadership skills of Iloilo Council Girl Scouts through the WAGGGS Leadership Model. Project Babae.lan started in February 2020 with a small group of 5 Cadet Girl Scouts and they were introduced to the WAGGGS Leadership Model. By March 2020 a Facilitator’s training was held at Iloilo Girl Scout Council Headquarters and the team grew to 12 Girl and Adult Facilitators. Due to the COVID19 Pandemic, the May 2020 projected Council-Wide Event and Girls Day was postponed indefinitely. By May 2020, Project Babae.lan was adapted as an Online Challenge. The Online Challenge ran for 8 weeks. Each week, the WAGGGS Leadership Model and the 6 leadership Mindsets were introduced. Girls were given Challenges and were given a question that would help them reflect on their personal experiences. It was concluded with a Girl-Led Panel on Gender and Leadership. Together with her fellow JLS 2019 Alumni, Akeena held the Josefa Llanes-Escoda E-Conference Series last September 2020. The E-Conference lasted for 7 weeks where 800 selected Girl Scouts all over the country were introduced to WAGGGS Leadership Model and the 6 Leadership Mindsets.
This project was done in partnership with all JLS 2019 Alumnae from the Girl Scouts of the Philippines and reached 800 Girls.
